Rickowens

At the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars at Cipriani yesterday evening, we asked expat Rick Owens—who picked up a Rule Breaker award to go with the National Design Award he got at the Cooper-Hewitt last week—how it felt to be back home. “Well, it’s been five years since we’ve been to the States,” he said. “I like New York a lot more than I used to. I’m more comfortable here personally than I used to be. Living in Europe…it’s so curly and cracked. New York, all of a sudden, seems so geometric and precise and strong. It’s very powerful driving along the skyline. Compared to Paris, which is so beautiful and delicate, New York seems very virile.”
