it’s a magic number

One of the labels being touted as the next big thing after the most recent round of shows is, unusually, from Milan, not generally a city given to next-big-thing-ness. But the refined, polished Spring collection shown by Roberto Rimondi and Tommaso Aquilano of 6267 had both editors and buyers talking. We caught up with the duo in their showroom to talk about their new It status, their debut shoe collection, and what chic means to them.
Milan is not exactly a hotbed of emerging designers. What are the positives and negatives of working from the city?
Tommaso Aquilano: Milan is a fashion capital with international appeal, with both bright and dark sides; we can only say we are proud to be able to organize a catwalk show there every season, and we are blessed to have inherited the Italian culture.
Your debut shoe collection is coming out for spring. Tell us about that.
T.A.: We have always been interested in completing our ready-to-wear with accessories. We clicked immediately with Franco Ballin, our manufacturer, who managed to translate our desire to create a progressive shoe collection, with new shapes and fabrics.
Can we expect bags soon?
Roberto Rimondi: Before starting a handbag collection, we need the time to study the perfect solution to how we would make them. We don’t want to burn out!
Your fabrics are some of the richest around. How did they come about?
T.A.: All our prints and fabrics are created by us and are exclusive to 6267. Our suppliers, who are as open to research as we are, give us the first input, and we translate this according to what we need. The fabrics need to work with our image of the collection and to be in line with the trends for the season.
It’s a very chic collection. Who is your ultimate embodiment of chic?
R.R.: Women who feel the need to wear something special and in line with their personality.
