Fashion and film merged in Los Angeles last night when Sir Paul Smith hosted a special 20th anniversary screening of “Withnail & I.” “This really is one of my all-time favorite films,” he told us. It must be—the designer and his team transformed the parking area of his Melrose Avenue store into a huge garden lounge especially for the event, which attracted model pals Guinevere Van Seenus and Michele Hicks along with Donovan Leitch, Brigette Romanek, Jennifer Tilly, Katy Rodriguez, and Tony Alva. Meanwhile, across town, a movie of a different sort was being screened on the walls of the Taylor De Cordoba gallery, this time showcasing the Spring ‘08 collection of Jesse Kamm. Titled “LA Bloom,” the ten-minute short—think Godard meets Gondry—was made by St. Louis-based production company CORE, and featured models in Kamm’s printed silk shift dresses posing against a whitewashed wall. Chloë Sevigny, Jena Malone, and Alison Lohman all came out to watch. “Tonight is about a celebration,” Kamm said as Edith Piaf echoed in the background. “A lot of hard work has gone into making this happen. Now I just want to try and enjoy it.”
