Lagerfeld2

Karl Lagerfeld is a busy man. In addition to to the three shows he’s put on in the past two weeks (Fendi, his eponymous collection, and Chanel), this fall, the mercurial designer has two new projects that once again confirm his mastery of the art of self-invention. On October 24, Film Forum will release Cannes award-winning director Roldolphe Marconi’s “Lagerfeld Confidential”. While Lagerfeld has granted plenty of interviews to the press, this is the first time he has permitted a documentary filmmaker to take a peek behind the artifice. Then, in November, Steidl will publish his latest photo book, “Karl Lagerfeld: Metamorphoses of an American’, in which the designer turns his camera lens on Brad Kroenig, a male model he discovered in 2003 and who has since been featured in almost every major label’s ad campaign. Lagerfeld and Kroenig worked to create various personae for him to inhabit, including James Dean, Rudolph Valentino, and a Jay Gatsby-like character. These days, it seems like Lagerfeld is only still in front of the camera.
