“I’ve never had a model fall at any of my shows,” said PR diva Kelly Cutrone of People’s Revolution before last night’s Heatherette show at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles. She then demonstrated the proper runway walk herself, as the models, including Lydia Hearst, watched. The Hearst heiress had come to town with New York club kids turned designers Traver Rains and Richie Rich, who were staging their first L.A. show in three years—an extension of their Spring ‘08 picnic in the park meets fifties Americana glamour collection. “New York was so much fun we wanted to continue the party,” said Rich, who was rolling around the backstage area on roller skates, “and we just thought, the Sunshine State, why not?” Actually, California is the Golden State, but that’s even more fitting for the duo’s glitz explosion, which included, naturally, gold lamé jeans as well as jewel-encrusted bustiers; pastel plaids and automobile prints; and lots of teeny weeny bikinis—for the men, that is, who were smeared with grease to match the piled-up-tire decor. As for Hearst, she made it safely down the catwalk. However, an errant piece of netting from the long train of her denim dress tripped up porn star Jenna Jameson.
