Designer update

platform for change

October 17, 2007  5:05 pm

Forget anything you saw in Paris; the hot shoe for next season is sure to be Grey Ant’s platform Teva, just one of the many brilliant touches in Grant Krajecki’s Spring ‘08 collection, which he reprised for a packed hometown crowd Tuesday night. Krajecki can move from tailored trousers to a jersey dress to a sexy, strappy contraption with ease, and as always his fabrics were unique: a digital moiré print, cotton from Nepal, and tie-dye patterns silk-screened onto cloth. The major difference between his earlier New York show and his L.A. outing was in the casting; Krajecki’s friends walked alongside the pros at Smashbox, and the appearance of 58-year-old Danish stunner Pia Gronning elicited hoots and hollers from the audience. The designer also debuted a collection of candy-colored eyewear. It may take a little while for his high-heel Tevas to hit stores, though. The shoes on the runway, said Krajecki, were actually whipped up by his boyfriend, whom he described as a “model agent by day, cobbler by night.”
