The Frieze Art Fair ended last night, drawing to a close the four-day (five if you count Wednesday’s VIP preview) celebration of contemporary art. While the art itself inspired much buzz over the course of the event, an entirely different attraction at the Regent’s Park venue caused nearly as much chatter: the toilets. Since there are no permanent facilities in this area of the park, Frieze organizers sought out the chicest of restrooms for attendees, settling on wood-panel portable toilets that were spacious and luxe. (Maybe that’s why the average cost of renting a booth for the fair was reportedly upward of $100K.) They were so nice that one attendee compared them to those used at another famously arty party: “I thought the porta-potties that Karl Lagerfeld had at his house for his party during Couture were the sleekest temporary toilets I had ever seen,” this gentleman said about the black glass and carpeted numbers that were set up at the designer’s Rue de l’Université pad. “But these are just as nice—which makes sense. These art snobs wouldn’t go just anywhere, right?”
