Designer update

under construction

Although Jeremy Scott’s former intern Cory Kennedy griped about the caliber of the models (”One of them fully ate it! She left skid marks!”), Scott’s show at Smashbox last night was as serious as L.A. fashion gets. Scott took the urban construction site theme to an extreme, with boot-print dresses, wrench jewelry, yellow-ruler jeans, and a geometric tire print on a silk jacket with rubber lapels. “I wanted to take all this brute, hard, masculine imagery and make something that was very chic, almost girly,” said the designer, whose bride, in a strapless trash-can dress and hard-hat veil, recalled Oscar the Grouch. “It’s definitely one of my favorites,” he said of the ensemble. “But they’re kind of like children—I couldn’t pick one. It would be like being a bad mom.”
