in the pink

It’s not uncommon for fashion people to make a pilgrimage. Colette, Selfridges, Barneys—we’ve all made the effort to get there at some point, no matter how inconvenient it was. But Santiago de Compostela, a small Galician center in the northwest of Spain? Though it’s not generally on the fashion map, the faithful have descended on the town for the four-day-long Noovo Festival, billed as an international celebration of fashion design and photography. Day one was a success: The photography exhibition drew together works as diverse as Spanish native Daniel Riera’s black-and-white nightscapes and Hong Kong-born Wing Shya’s “In the Mood for Love”-style panoramas, while the evening fashion shows presented a broad spectrum of designers, from Patrik Söderstam to Boudicca. The festival is also proving a platform for off-the-runway fashion. As Graham Tabor, the fashion director of the DVD magazine FLY, said, “Last night I met up with Gareth Pugh and his lot for dinner. As we walked past one restaurant a whole table of eight got up to gawk at us. Perhaps it was the pink hair?”
