What’s in a name? Paris-based designer Michelle Jank, who recently debuted her second collection of acrylic and stretch jersey necklaces under the title Suspended Reality, has a way with monikers. Inspired by Chopin, tiaras, impractical ball gowns, and birds, the 32-year-old Aussie expat, who’s created accessories for Jun Takahashi’s Undercover and counts Karl Lagerfeld as a fan, gave her designs evocative names such as A Bird Flew Into My Heart and It Was Simple After That. Jank’s custom-made pieces are available at Dover Street Market, Browns, Harrods, and Colette, and play with the idea of proportion. “It’s really about jewelry as garment transformation,” she says. “I’ve always been a fan of larger-format pieces, so I wanted these designs to appear as if they are suspended on the chest from a distance.”
