Holts

It’s always reassuring to see a familiar face when you walk into a party. Or at least an ensemble, as was the case last night for Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, who hosted an AIDS research benefit at Holt Renfrew in Toronto. As the pair made a low-key entrance, the first thing they saw was a mannequin wearing their burnished gold minidress. “That was in our show finale,” said McCollough, smiling and looking sleek in a Prada suit. The duo was in town to lend some face time to Bloor Street Entertains, which raises funds for CANFAR, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research. In addition to feeling strongly about the cause, for the designers, the night was also a chance to thank an early retail adopter. “They were one of the first three who supported us outside of the United States—Colette, Harvey Nichols, and Holt Renfrew.” And while this was still, technically, a dinner in a department store, a mere 62 guests were present at Holt’s Café, which looked almost cozy. “It’s all in the mix of people, a motley crew of personalities,” said the Jil Sander-clad Hernandez of a successful party. “And a cocktail doesn’t hurt.”
