Fraxel

Wondering how the fashionista next door is planning to spend her holiday (and bonus)? No, not shopping for a crocodile clutch or new Manolos, but on a far more precious piece of skin: her face. “Someone once asked me if the Oscars was our busiest time, but really it’s right now,” said New York dermatologist Dr. Patricia Wexler on a rare break from tending to her patient roster of fashion-industry insiders, socialites, and celebrities. One of her most popular procedures this year? Fraxel, a fractional laser which, unlike past models, is safe on olive or dark complexions and doesn’t cause bleeding or long-lasting redness. In four to five treatments (priced at $1,000 to $2,500 each, depending on the surface area treated) spaced two to three weeks apart, patients can see big improvements in acne scarring, skin tone, and wrinkles. “We have two machines going practically all the time,” said Dr. Wexler of her Fraxel arsenal. For more insider beauty secrets, don’t miss our Winter Beauty Guide, launching this Friday.
