cause celebre

Of all the events queued up to take place at Art Basel Miami last night, the party for Ralph Lauren’s new photography book, “Ralph Lauren Deluxe,” may have been the most conspicuously celebrity-packed. Hosted by Ingrid Sischy and Sandy Brant at the designer’s Collins Avenue store (with Ingrid Casares, Julie Gilhart, Sante D’Orazio, André Balazs, Bob Colacello, Lance Armstrong, and David Lauren in attendance), the fête benefited the designer’s Pink Pony Fund, which raises money for cancer care and prevention. “Lance is our honorary ambassador,” David Lauren told us. “He understands the issue greatly.” To raise funds, one print from each of the eight photographers (Bruce Weber, Deborah Turbeville, Kurt Markus, Sheila Metzner, Patrick Demarchelier, François Halard, and Carter Berg) represented in the book went on sale for between $2,000 and $7,500. As one Ralph Lauren employee understatedly put it, the art fair was the perfect time to have the party because “the community at Basel is so engaged in photography and art.”
