Karllagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld was singing the praises of the British capital at yesterday’s Chanel show, which was attended by Lily Allen, Emma Thompson, Thandie Newton, and Bella Freud. “I love London—it’s hip. Its diversity makes it one of the more interesting cities in the world,” he told us. Londoners, for their part, were just as happy to have Lagerfeld in their midst as he was to be there, bashing each other around in a quasi mosh pit after the show as they jostled to get a word with him. But that’s apparently nothing compared to how popular he is back home in Germany. “He is a national treasure,” one television producer told us. “He is even more famous than [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel. We are all hoping that one day he will run as Chancellor—imagine if he can rebrand Germany like he rebranded Chanel? He could do wonders for our country. “
