Padma

La Perla’s Madison Avenue boutique was packed last night, and not just with ladies. As Amy Fine Collins noted, “There are a lot more guys out.” No wonder. The event, which was curated by Valerie Steele and benefited breast-cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, celebrated the lingerie label’s legacy and featured live models wearing vintage pieces selected from over 50 years of archives. Collins told us she owns one perfect black bikini from La Perla, but that Wolford makes the best basics. “It’s like sportswear versus couture.” Helen Lee Schifter, in a cream La Perla top, agreed that it was “the gold standard,” but Gap Body sufficed for everyday. What does she think of underwear as outerwear? “You should express your inner person however you want.” Padma Lakshmi, one of the hosts, was more extravagant—and more forthcoming. “I wear La Perla every day,” she said. “The mesh G-strings, the corset tops. I wore one on the first season of ‘Top Chef.’”
