planning ahead: 2008

December 28, 2007  11:05 am

Newyear

Peter Som is off to Paris. Zac Posen is skiing out West. Camilla Staerk and Victor Glemaud are (separately) headed to Jamaica, and Sue Stemp, who all but lives on a plane, is doing Christmas in Tulum, then hitting Mexico City for the New Year. All told, it’s hard to find a designer staying put this season, except perhaps for Zero’s Maria Cornejo, who says she’ll be spending the holidays jetting between Queens, Chelsea, and the Upper East Side. That’s before she takes off for New Year’s Eve in Costa Rica, however—a trip likely to strike envy in the heart of Sari Gueron. The number-one gift on Gueron’s fantasy wish list is a post-fashion week getaway to Costa Rican beaches, but in the meantime, the happy homebody says that when it comes to ringing in 2008, it’s all about good friends, lots of Champagne, and no party-hopping." There will be no party-hopping for Made Her Think designer Meredith Kahn, either: Much like a bottle of bubbly, the way-pregnant Kahn is set to pop on New Year’s Eve. Down in Australia, where it’s summer, Lover’s Nic Briand and Susien Chong will also be getting to know a new member of the family: The British Shorthair kitten the couple each went halves on as a Christmas gift to themselves. Other than that, Chong and Briand are looking forward to a beach vacation at home this year. "Each day, we plan on going for a morning swim, eating fresh fruit, and then spending the afternoon catching up on DVDs, magazines, and books," they write from Sydney. Likewise, Cynthia Vincent gets to enjoy the warm weather in L.A., where she’ll be celebrating a crafty Christmas by preparing for her annual New Year’s fête. "I go all out," the designer admits. "Vintage tablecloths, handmade centerpiece, and this year, all the vegetables and salad greens will be picked fresh from my garden." Correspondence from warmer climates has inspired more than a few Style.com staffers to dream of fleeing New York for some tropical paradise, maybe the same mystery destination where Alexander Wang is headed. His only clue: He expects to come back with a grand tan. Any New Year’s resolutions about wearing sunscreen in 2008? "Nope," replies Wang. "I don’t make resolutions, because I know I’ll definitely break them." Happy holidays from all of us, and here’s to a healthy, fun, and fashionable year ahead.
