Everyone in New York, whether they work on Wall Street or not, watches each other’s social stock. Enter Famegame.com, a networking site that charts the rises and falls of the city’s media-genic cuties, not unlike the late Socialite Rank. Like that much-loathed and much-loved site, Famegame sticks to the numbers. “The site is powered by an algorithm that ranks members based on the amount of media attention they receive and the fame of their connections,” the site’s originators, two artists who prefer to remain anonymous, told us. “New members can join the site by getting their picture taken at a high-profile event in the city, and then be linked to the other people in the photo.” The Loki-like founders are responsible for a number of high-profile hoaxes in the NYC art and media scenes, and are significant conduits and big proponents of raging partying, but their identifies remain unknown outside of a small circle of clued-in insiders. That circle widened last Thursday, when they gathered media folk and the gilded names they write about at Chelsea’s Guesthouse. It was all for the sake of gathering material for the duo’s satirical self-referential art. Among the guests were Anthem magazine’s Nina Stotler, whose white yeti coat was a source of much envy.
