the surreal thing

Liz Goldwyn was having an uptown shopping crisis last night at the Neuhoff Edelman gallery, where over 150 pieces of jewelry created by notable twentieth-century artists—Picasso, Dalí, Calder, Lichtenstein—are on display. “I’ve been sending pictures to my friend in L.A. to make sure it’s really fabulous,” she told us. The piece in question was a whimsical gold pin by Jean Cocteau—”It’s a surrealist’s dream!” she exclaimed—but Goldwyn wasn’t convinced. “I’m going to think about it overnight,” she said. “If I dream about it, then I’ll get it.” Goldwyn’s other jewelry-related plans while she’s in New York included lunch today with Kenneth Jay Lane—who should have been able to give her some advice if she was still on the fence.
