uptown ladies

December 18, 2007  12:52 pm

Even the most downtown of the downtowners decided to dabble in uptown pursuits on Monday night. First there was the opening of a new exhibit, one that focused on a bloggable conversation about fashion, at the Met’s Costume Institute, which brought out kids like Eva Amurri and Chris Benz, not to mention more uptown regulars like Diane von Furstenberg and Manolo Blahnik. (The shoe maestro borrowed the CFDA president’s sable coat to make his speech.) Then there was Leelee Sobieski and Arden Wohl. The childhood friends took a front-row table at the Café Carlyle, where Woody Allen has played his clarinet with seven other musician on Monday nights for, oh, decades now (although this was his last appearance for several months, as he starts filming a new project soon). “Honestly, it was one of the most enjoyable evenings I’ve had in New York,” Sobieski said later in the evening. “That Arden Wohl knows how to take a lady out.”
