girls on the side

As part of this Fall ‘08 collection, which he presented on Tuesday night, Oliver Spencer included a small range of women’s clothing. The British-born designer, who’s known for his original and playful takes on his native land’s traditional attire, showed four women’s looks that corresponded directly to the ideas explored in his men’s line. Military and equestrian details were seen throughout, as was cotton canvas (in a navy jacket paired with a white linen peasant dress) and tweed (above), two of his staple fabrics. It was, essentially, menswear for grown-up tomboys—which we like. Will women embrace it? Eddie Chai, owner of the trend-setting men’s boutique Odin and co-owner of Oliver Spencer’s eponymous store in the West Village, had this to say: “Honestly, I don’t know the first thing about selling women’s clothes, but I’m sure it will be great.”
