Now that the invitations are starting to arrive, there’s no denying that the Fall shows are looming. Since invites can foreshadow what a designer’s collection is going to look like, we’re especially intrigued by the one sent out by Los Angeles-based Juan Carlos Obando, who’s showing in New York for the first time this season: It’s a limited-edition poster featuring his muse, Liz Goldwyn, crime fighting in the spirit of a Frank Miller cartoon. “There is something so amazing about the importance of each feminine role in all of Miller’s work,” says the Colombian designer, who enlisted graphic artist Juan Patino to translate both Goldwyn’s personal style (fishnet stockings, hello?) and Miller’s superhero dark edge. The result is called “Case Study #8 Liz Goldwyn vs Frank Miller” and depicts Goldwyn wearing a dress called “Case Study #13: Sumo.” Which is not to say that there’s anything oversize about it—except perhaps anatomically. Goldwyn, who was surprised and flattered by Patino’s interpretation of her, says, “I had to laugh when I saw my character. She has such big boobs!”
