the time has come

If the New York collections were a homecoming dance, then the Waverly Inn would be the high school cafeteria. In addition to serving up Mama’s mac and cheese (well, my mom didn’t put shaved truffles on top, but you get the point), the gossipy atmosphere and everybody-knows-your-name crowd have that certain air of adolescent times. Last night seemed like it was the first day back to fashion school. Rachel Zoe was there, and divulged that she’s shooting this week, getting her Halston stuff together, and then front-rowing it for the rest of the shows. The Armani PR team, no doubt in town on official Met gala business, was wining and dining the New York Times’ers. Some Calvin Klein PR people were taking notes in anticipation of their dinner at the hot spot on Thursday night. Georgina Chapman revealed that she’s thrilled with the progress of her Wednesday Marchesa presentation, and Natalia Vodianova wanted to clarify any misconceptions she may have given about her catwalk career (that’s her at the final Valentino couture show last week). “Someone said that I had retired from the runway,” she told us. “But that’s not exactly true. I think maybe I’ll do one a year. I don’t want to get rusty.” And rounding out the class of Fall ‘08 was Bruce Willis, who probably isn’t in the city for fashion week—but, hey, with all that buzz around the restaurant, he might turn up at a show or two.
