Last night in Beverly Hills at the Rodeo Drive store, Van Cleef & Arpels showed its L’Atlantide collection, inspired by the mythical kingdom of Atlantis. Well-lit mist emanating from giant humidifiers shrouded the evening in an aura of underwater mystery as guests, including some of the store’s best customers, eyed whimsical pieces in the shape of fairies, seahorses, and fish made of Namibian blue chalcedonies, black opals, tourmalines, and, of course, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds. The actress Jena Malone chatted with her friend, Pucci-clad jewelry designer Liz Goldwyn, about the black Alexander McQueen dress she’s thinking of wearing to the SAG Awards (Into the Wild, in which she stars, is nominated for Best Ensemble). Goldwyn suggested that perhaps Malone should borrow some Van Cleef jewelry to complete her look. The actress seemed pleased at the suggestion, pointed out her fashion nonchalance as evidenced by the combat boots she was wearing, then told Goldwyn, who loves to explore Van Cleef’s archives and could talk about jewelry all night, “Come on Liz, let’s go. We’re late for dinner.”
