Sunday, February 17
9 a.m.
I’ve just woken up and am waiting for my breakfast, which I like to have in bed. It’s so cozy—and I can go through all the invites for the day. It’s a full schedule, but thankfully the start isn’t too early…but wait until Tuesday and Wednesday.
10:45 a.m.
I leave the hotel to realize that it’s freezing. I sometimes forget how cold this city can be. While I’m here, I have a fabulous driver, Massimiliano, a student who loves—that’s what he says, anyway—driving me around. Except yesterday he decided to pick me up at the airport in a 1975 Silver Shadow Rolls Royce! Elegant, but not so practical. Today, however, the car is a much smaller green Lancia. I’m relieved.
noon
It’s the scheduled start time for the Giorgio Armani show. Walking through the all-concrete Tadao Ando-designed theatre makes me feel even more cold, and while I am sitting watching the show, I think that I’d love to jump on the catwalk and get hold of that long mongolian fur coat—it would be perfect for the arctic climate out there!
12:55 p.m.
We’re on our way to Alberta Ferretti. Massimiliano has got some delicious little round pizzas and olive breads for us. Looking at the calendar for the week, I reflect that there’s hardly any time for a lovely sit-down lunch. I am in Milan and I never have time for a proper meal! How frustrating.
1:25 p.m.
The Ferretti show is in a greenhouse! I should be happy, sitting in the sun, but after the initial excitement, my face starts to warm up a bit too much. And then I remember that the moisturizer I used this morning has no SPF. I calm down by telling myself I’ll have a tan by the end of the show.
3:15 p.m.
The D&G show starts with one of my favorite songs (Queen’s “Under Pressure”) and one of my favorite patterns: tartan! I love that British dress-like-the-Queen look. My thoughts go immediately to my new Edwardian wing chair that is at the upholsterer…I should have gone for a tartan, and not that yellow fabric I chose.
4:45 p.m.
On the way to Gianfranco Ferré I snack on a little focaccia (my driver likes the kind with the fresh tomatoes), and of course I manage to drop some on my scarf and my navy Jil Sander coat. Nobody will notice. I want to be positive.
6:15 p.m.
Time for a hot chocolate. Oops, no! I almost forgot the cocktail party at the Dolce & Gabbana shop. Not to be missed. After a couple of glasses of Champagne, some chat, and delicious nibbles, I am ready for the next thing.
7:00 p.m.
Time for one of one of my favourite designer’s shows: Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum. I love everything about it: the clothes (that gold feather dress on Lily Donaldson was unbelievable), the music, the setting, and, of course, the romantic atmosphere he can create.
9:15 p.m.
A cocktail party at the Bulgari Hotel, to celebrate the new Bulgari accessories designer and his bags. I’m happy to meet him, then it’s time to go home and have dinner.
