get out the vote

A Charlotte Ronson show is always a family affair, and this season was no exception: Little sister Annabelle was on the runway, twin Samantha was on the turntables, and brother Mark could be found in the front row alongside Nicky Hilton and Jessica Stam. But what was up with the red, white, and blue “Vote Ronson” T-shirts packed in the swag bags at the show? “Oh, it was me being tongue-in-cheek,” Charlotte explained backstage after her catwalk had closed up shop. “Mark is up for Producer of the Year at the Grammy Awards next week, and what with the election going on, I thought it would be a funny way to show my support.” Not all the political statements at Ronson’s show were a joke, however. The show was sponsored by the Humane Society, a reflection of the designer’s recent conversion to an anti-fur stance. “I was never a big fancy fur girl, to be honest,” she said. “But when I co-hosted the Cool vs. Cruel event in the fall, something clicked, and it struck me what an unnecessary cruelty fur is, in this day and age. I guess you could say that I finally got political about it.”
