glam slam

As the audience took their seats at Friday night’s Julien Macdonald show, a deafening cheer went up backstage. It was a harbinger of things to come; London’s king of camp was in a party mood, and his Narnia-themed runway was an uproarious ending to the city’s fashion week. The crowd, which included Erin O’Connor, Leah Wood, Lulu Guinness, actress Camilla Rutherford, and assorted other British celebs, hooted and hollered at every look, going almost berserk when a young Cher doppelgänger appeared in a gold lamé Cleopatra-inspired dress. If it sounds over-the-top, that’s just the way Macdonald likes it. As he told us backstage, “I am planning to build my business into a fabulous new British glamour brand.”
