london: where to go

February 12, 2008  10:19 am

If it’s the second week of February, it must be London fashion week. We asked Browns Focus buyer Alexandra Stylianidis for her favorite places to go to ease the pain of two-hour show delays and rush-hour drives across town.

I couldn’t get through the week without the alterations team at Browns. The ladies and their magic fingers will tackle any small or big job!

Automat on Dover Street is the coolest new hangout in town. Owner Carlos Almada is such a fun guy, it’s always full of great people, and the food is delicious! He’s opening a club downstairs, which is sure to be a place to be seen.

Fat Badger (310 Portobello Road, W10), on the corner of Portobello and Golborne roads (above), is really low-key but with hearty food and a good atmosphere. It’s perfect for long Sunday lunches after cruising down Portobello.

Truc Vert (42 North Audley Street, W1) is the best hideaway breakfast place in London. It’s also right round the corner from Browns, so très convenient for me and ideal for an early meeting, when you don’t fancy seeing the whole world just yet.

The Westbury Hotel on Bond Street has an elegant Art Deco glamour to it—and it’s perfectly central for cocktails after appointments or quick meetings.

If you have a shoe emergency, Mario’s Shoe Care (26A Colville Square, W11) near Ladbroke Grove tube station will fix your Louboutins in a flash and have you trotting off to the next show.

Vaishaly (51 Paddington Street, W1) is the only place to go for a facial. It’s the perfect thing to revive you after a long week!
