Guests attending Bernhard Willhelm’s presentation last night in Paris were treated to a double dose of mystery kick-started by a couple on a motorcycle. The disguised duo (they wear black metallic helmets à la Daft Punk) have been performing a series of snail’s-pace drive-bys at several shows this week. The stunt reaches its zenith when the driver revs the engine, at which point the passenger stands up and makes a cape out of her scarf, which is printed with an image of a giant 20-euro note. We don’t get it, either. Moments later, the curiosity continued when excerpts from “Poltergeist” echoed throughout the 11th-arrondissement concert hall. “Hello? What do you look like?” Willhelm’s answer was an off-the-wall collection that took its cues from traditional Tibetan dress, Japanese tie-dye techniques, and the clothes on the Japanese TV hit “Monkey Magic.” But why were there mini staircases on the runway? “Oh, those,” laughed Willhelm as he clutched a congratulatory bouquet of daffodils backstage after the show. “The stairs were really a way for me to show how far my brand is willing to climb.”
