nicolas at night

Nicolas Ghesquiere put the new Gare du Nord-St. Pancras route to the test on Tuesday when he jumped on the Eurostar after a fitting for his Fall collection to throw a party and dinner to open his store in Mayfair’s new fashion-shopping mini-colony, Mount Street. “It was easy,” he said. Charlotte Gainsbourg went with him as traveling companion and co-host, and the pair chatted with guests as they circled round the store, one highlight of which is the changing rooms, with geometric cubicles like something out of the Starship Enterprise. Dinner was served at Harry’s Bar, where table chat flew between Nick Knight, Pat McGrath, Guido Palau, Miranda Brooks, Ronnie Cooke-Newhouse, and David Sims. It was a welcome mid-show break for some of the hardest-working people in fashion, who are destined to convene and reconvene on a gazillion shows in the next couple of weeks. Eurostar or no Eurostar, by the end of the evening, Ghesquiere looked as if he would have killed to be teleported back to Paris, so focused is he on delivering his next top-secret surprise on February 26.
