the revolution will be underwired

New mother Milla Jovovich has tried her hand at many things—acting, songwriting, fashion design—but she admits she’d had yet to face a challenge quite like childbearing. Never mind the pregnancy or the labor or the sleepless nights; the one thing longtime model Jovovich never figured on was having trouble wearing clothes. “It hasn’t changed my sense of style, I don’t think, but it has made me more aware of the ways clothes fit different bodies,” she said on Sunday at the press preview for the Jovovich-Hawk line she co-designs with Carmen Hawk. As three-month-old baby Ever cried herself to sleep in a room down the hall and Hawk pinned a ruched dress to fit one of the size-zero models, Jovovich made a show of chagrin as she held a few of the Fall collection’s tailored, Joan Crawford-inspired pieces up to herself. “I gained a lot of weight, simple as that,” she acknowledged. “And it’s kind of a drag not to be able to try on the samples, like this ruffle-trim skirt that’s so kick-ass. But then again, it’s also pretty inspiring—it makes me want to do a Jovovich-Hawk maternity line, and a kids’ line, and most of all, what I’d really love to do is a line of sexy-cool nursing bras. I’m not going to show you what’s going on under here, but I promise, the nursing bra market is just waiting to be revolutionized.”
