bridge and tunnel

March 31, 2008  5:33 pm

Kalman

Despite a lack of ecstasy (of the chemical variety, anyway), I headed over to the old Tunnel nightclub space on Saturday for the BridgeArtFair. With its 20-foot ceilings, Tunnel is well suited to displaying and viewing artwork. I bobbed and weaved through over 50 international exhibitors, stopping for a longer look at several. Artist Lauren Kalman’s gold-infused photograph series at the Lenox, Massachusetts-based Sienna Gallery was captivating; Morten Steen Hebsgaard’s table at the Danish Galleri Christoffer Egelund, constructed from the pieces of three Ikea tables, was also extremely clever. And I was lucky enough to bear witness to the Macedonian performance artist Igor Josifov’s “Purification Process,” a sort of choreographed homage to “The Crying Game” that he put on twice a day.
