old school

Mining a company’s archive is nothing new in fashion, but for Yigal Azrouel’s second season of footwear with 40-year-old tennis shoe maker K-Swiss, he chose a more personal bit of vintage—his own favorite pair of childhood kicks. "I wanted to re-create the sneaker I wore and loved when I was younger, so they have a retro feel to them." The designer achieved that end by way of bright color-blocking and precise detailing (like the twill tape piping) on classic K-Swiss silhouettes, while using unusual and au courant fabrics like wool buffalo check and cracked leather. The line, which includes six styles for men and six for women, will hit Azrouël boutiques and www.k-swiss.com this fall.
