speech therapy

For the past few years, Margherita Missoni has been as ubiquitous a presence on the city’s social scene as a velvet rope. After all, as the unofficial Manhattan ambassador for her family’s clothing label, going out was more or less her job. But then, last month, after a little soul-searching, she decided the time had come to hand in her letter of resignation. So she bid close pals like Tatiana Santo Domingo adieu and traded New York for Paris. “I just felt like my work here was done,” she explained at the tea party she hosted yesterday afternoon in honor of Missoni’s Fall collection at Bergdorf’s. “And there’s so much going on in New York that it’s difficult to say no. Since I’ve moved, I’ve started doing all the things I didn’t have time to do while I lived here, like write and go to flea markets.” Of course, Missoni hasn’t quit New York for good (few can). She’ll be back next month for the mother of all fashion fêtes, the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute gala, and tonight, she’ll join a long roster of boldface names at the New Yorkers for Children gala, which is sponsored by Missoni. “The party’s going to be great. I think Joy is going to give a speech,” she said, referring to her friend Joy Bryant, who was standing nearby. “Wait, what?!” exclaimed Bryant, with a look of sheer panic. “I’m supposed to make a speech? This is the first I’ve heard of that!”
