super size me

If Sarah Lerfel or the members of her Colette coterie want to get a better look at the details in the necklaces by ISHI they’re currently ordering for the boutique, a stop by the BPMW showroom in Los Angeles may be in order. Designer Ishi Glinsky opens an exhibit of his work there this evening, and no doubt the showstopper will be his three super-size necklaces, the largest of which tops ten feet in length. “Well, this way people will definitely be able to see what’s going on,” explained Glinsky earlier this week. He went on to note that he really thinks of himself as more of a collage artist than a jeweler. “I’m really inspired by neighborhood,” he says. “It’s this kind of gritty area south of Echo Park, and my favorite thing to do is walk around and pick up bits of wood or bolts and screws off the sidewalk.” Ishi then edits that randomalia together with more typical necklace fare such as coral, antique whalebone, and precious metals and gems in order to make his artisanal pieces, a few of which just went on sale at the brand-new Endovanera shop in Silver Lake. “The Endovanera boys are working with me on one of the pieces for the show, as well. It’s a gigantic wooden button-down. Button-downs are my other obsession right now, like, really great ones by Comme des Garçons. That, and picking up stuff off the street.”
