Los Angeles Art Weekend kicked off at Opening Ceremony on North La Cienega Boulevard last night, where founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim unveiled their second-floor Mini Mall. The event drew a plethora of local designers, including Jeremy Scott, Jasmin Shokrian, Magda Berliner, Gregory Parkinson, and Katy Rodriguez. Artist Agathe Snow was spotted buying shoes at the downstairs cash desk. But the real stars of the night were the boutique’s staff—both Liz Goldwyn and Jason Schwartzman waxed lyrical about the colorful, multi-talented bunch. “It’s not like everywhere else you go in L.A., where the staff force this fake, cynical smile. Here, you know it’s sincere,” said the latter, who came to the party straight from the studio, where he’s completing his second solo album. Two hours later, guests stood at the exit jangling their car keys and debating the night’s next stop. Leo Fitzpatrick (who is, along with Benjamin Cho, scheduled to DJ at another L.A. Art Weekend event tonight), however, had another form of transport in mind. “Oh, you rode your bike here?” asked one partygoer. “Yeah, all the way from New York City,” he joked, and headed for his BMX.
