brad browses, death metal tastes its own medicine

Though there were widespread worries that the frail dollar would keep American collectors away from Art Basel, which got under way today, a few moneyed souls made the trip. Brad Pitt was reported to be browsing the booths at the VIP preview, and while no one has boasted of selling work to the star, he was spotted lingering over a few British and American artists’ work. And Sofia Coppola was quoted as saying that the mad crush of collectors pushing toward the doors at the preview reminded her of a “mosh pit.” Those interested in experiencing the energy she commented on can visit João Onofre’s “Box Sized Die” installation in the “Unlimited” section of the exhibit and test out the sonic endurance box, where Darkmoon, the Basel-based death metal band, were seen suffering through someone else’s extreme noise.
