Designer update

in sao paulo, one word: plastics

Headgear

At Sao Paulo fashion week, the future is now. The first day saw a bevy of “Blade Runner”-ish babes on the runway, fitted with futuristic headgear. The Brazilian iterations topped off Balenciaga’s cyborg look from several seasons ago: Osklen’s visors were sculpted from iridescent plastic and inspired by the dense drops of rain seen in the summer monsoon, while Forum Tufi Duek sent out a series of sleek motorcycle helmets as accessories to the bourgeois satin cocktail dresses. Though it’s doubtful that biker babes make up much of Duek’s clientele, or that Osklen’s chic Carioca customers would rock a visor on the beach, the theatrical pieces added a bit of drama, helping to make these the day’s standout shows.
