When Joy Gryson showed up at the CFDA Awards with a chain-handled evening bag in bright blue eelskin dangling from her shoulder, bag fanatics were inspired to wonder: Does this mean she?ll be adding evening styles to her line? “Nope,” says the designer, who was nominated for the 2008 Swarovski Award for Accessory Design. “Evening isn’t really in the Gryson vocabulary right now.” Well, so much for that, but in the meantime, Gryson’s “Baby Beca” is looking for a new owner. Beginning on Thursday, West Village retailer Mick Margo will be taking silent-auction bids on the one-of-a-kind bag, with proceeds going to Family Focus Adoption Service. The organization was co-founded by Gryson’s mother—but it’s close to her heart for other reasons, too. “I’m adopted myself,” Gryson says.
