Designer update

missoni headed to l.a.

June 22, 2008  8:30 pm

Designer Angela Missoni was full of news before her Spring 2009 menswear show in Milan. The house is planning its first L.A. boutique, on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Rodeo Drive. The interior will be by theater designer Patrick Kinmonth. Steven Meisel, meanwhile, shot the label’s meticulously lit new ad campaign, an homage to Bernardo Bertolucci’s enduringly influential film, “The Conformist.” Ms. Missoni also told a funny story about an actress in Italy’s adult-entertainment industry who endeavored to go by the nom de screen Roberta Missoni—until the family’s lawyers intervened. Brand extension is all well and good, but there are limits.
