modo’s famiglia reunion

It was a family affair last night at the launch of the first stateside Modo store on Mott Street in Nolita. Along with Alessandro Lanaro, CEO of the swank Italian eyewear company, and his wife, Ulrica, guests included a group Lanaro calls his “U.S. family”: Marisa Noel Brown, Charlotte Assaf, Kalliope Karella, and Vanessa von Bismarck. The new boutique carries the main Modo line of handmade glasses as well as a few of the licensees, including shades by Fabien Baron, Derek Lam, and Phillip Lim, who told us that he knew right away he wanted to work with the company because “as soon as I met Alessandro, there was an instant synergy.” Afterward, at nearby Peasant, familial matters kept popping up over the soppressata and gnocchi con funghi. Brown, who’s four months pregnant, was swapping baby names with Eliza Reed, Olivia Palermo pondered the thought of life with kiddies some day, and Mrs. Lanaro became teary after her husband’s tender toast, exclaiming, “I’m just so glad everyone is here!”
