ready, steady, jet: how to buy a bikini

In Australia, beach garb is regarded with a seriousness that Americans save for Team Jolie/Team Aniston debates. And possibly no Aussie takes the issue more seriously than Jessika Allen, the designer of Jets, one of her homeland’s leading swimwear lines. Naturally, Allen’s first piece of advice for swimwear shoppers is: Buy Jets. Beyond that, she suggests that women aim for a store staffed with at least one specialist salesclerk, and start the expedition feeling confident. “Eat a healthy breakfast, wear comfortable shoes, get a tan—do what ever it takes to feel good,” she says. “You should also make a point of wearing loose clothes that are easy to get in and out of.” Further pearls of wisdom:
1. Never buy a swimsuit that is a size too small. Even stretch fabrics only go so far! Lines digging into the body are extremely unflattering.
2. Have an open mind and be prepared to try on lots of suits: There are no hard and fast rules about what body shapes should wear which styles, as every woman is different. As long as your swimsuit makes you feel glamorous and sexy and gives you confidence, you have made the right decision.
3. When you have picked your swimsuit, complete your total look by investing in a sarong or caftan, allowing you to move glamorously from poolside to bar-side in style.
