You can always measure the success of a store opening by: 1. guests drinking the Veuve Clicquot bar dry, and 2. the attendance of local designers doing their bit to congratulate you on a retail spot in the same city as your old stomping ground. Such was the case in Los Angeles last night at the 3.1 Phillip Lim opening on Robertson Boulevard, as the likes of Magda Berliner, Jesse Kamm, and Jasmin Shokrian showed their support for the SoCal native along with Emmy Rossum, who was in the mood for a little Thursday evening retail therapy. "Is the register open tonight? I brought my credit card especially," she cooed. And she wasn’t the only one, as guests within the 5,000-square-foot store (Lim’s third to date and said to be four years in the making) shopped up a storm among a myriad of rooms separated by pyramid foam walls, bamboo-lined shelves, lacquered concrete floors, and circular skylights. Next door’s tanning salon never had it this good.
