the shirt (almost) off nacho’s back

Christian Cota has been quite the man around town lately. But it’s his dresses that have really been making the scene. In the past month, Cota has clad dancers for the ABT Spring Gala, watched Blake Lively don his cocoon coat on “Gossip Girl,” and had a frock showcased in FIT’s current exhibition. He’s also been getting a lot of love in the Latin community. Cota was on the committee for El Museo del Barrio’s recent fête, and he has repeated his service for tonight’s Tropical Affair soirée benefiting the Latin American Health Foundation and for ABT’s Noche Latina next week. Two of his creations will be on guests at tonight’s bash, but even the designer himself is willing to admit that neither dress will be the hottest number at the party. “I went to the Manhattan Polo Classic this weekend and convinced Nacho to donate one of his shirts to the silent auction,” says Cota, referring (of course) to Black Watch captain and international heartthrob Nacho Figueras. “He wound up giving me a fresh shirt, but I have to admit, I was kind of hoping he’d sign the one he wore during the match. I mean, it would have been sweaty and gross, but you know what they say, anything for a good cause.…”
