birthday coup: stealing attention from karl

It wasn’t easy, but someone managed to steal the spotlight away from the roped-off VIP area for just a moment at Tuesday night’s party for the Visionaire collaboration with Lacoste, which was held on a boat in the Seine. As most eyes gawked at Karl Lagerfeld and his handsome entourage, not to mention the bevy of models (Lisa Cant, Emina Cunmulaj, etc.) and fashion heavy hitters (Hamish Bowles, Stefano Pilati, Christian Lacroix, and Cecilia Dean) that surrounded him, a birthday cake with sparklers was noisily carried through the crowd. “How embarrassing was that?” asked the birthday girl, French model Morgane Dubled, who had no idea that a friend had brought the cake—and the attention-screaming sparklers—to the party. “Here I was minding my own business with my friends and then suddenly everyone is staring at me. Ah!” To make matters worse, everyone kept asking how old she was, a no-no question for models. Even at the end of the night, after Karl and co. had left, she still couldn’t catch a break. As she sat on the railing smoking a cigarette, one of the security men asked her to stand up. “Listen, it’s my birthday and my feet hurt,” she pleaded. “You try walking in these all day and all night.” No dice.
