the highs and lows of shmoozing

“How many times, when I was just getting started in my business, did I need a little help?” asked Bungalow 8 proprietor and nightlife legend Amy Sacco, who hosted a small screening and after-party (at Bungalow, of course) last night for a film called “The Doorman.” “I met with Lucas [Akoskin, the writer] and thought it was a great idea and a good story, so this was the least I could do.” The plot is one that is surely familiar to Sacco, who, along with Thom Filicia and Frederick’s owner Frederick Lesort, makes a cameo in the film. The main character, Trevor W., played by Akoskin, moves to New York City and very quickly becomes a famous and powerful gatekeeper at the city’s chicest nightspot. His ego gets enormous just as quickly, though, and his downfall is documented by a film crew that was supposed to be recording his high life, which gives the movie its satirical mockumentary format (think “Borat” with a clipboard and headset.) “It’s a tribute to the highs and lows of shmoozing,” said Sacco, who added that she’d organized the get-together for friends like Greg Calejo, Alex Haden, Andrew Saffir, and a few Gossip Girls. “Which is a familiar story in this city, and in this industry.” “The Doorman” is playing in New York now.
