Designer update

to the manor born: country clothes for city living

July 14, 2008  10:25 am

Fenwick1

Daiki Suzuki, the Japanese-born designer behind both the menswear label Engineered Garments and the newly revitalized Woolrich Woolen Mills, has almost singlehandedly made it hip for Manhattanites of the male persuasion to look as though they’ve recently returned from weekends shooting grouse. Girls have been getting into the act, too—according to Suzuki and his partner Angelo Urrutia, ladies have been snapping up the smallest sizes of Engineered Garments’ perfectly imperfect blazers and button-downs, and soon, they’ll have a brand all their own: Fenwick by Engineered Garments launches with a capsule collection this summer. Named in honor of Suzuki muse Katharine Hepburn’s Connecticut manse, Fenwick’s debut will mostly feature pieces that are downsized and retailored versions of menswear looks, and will be available exclusively at the Den pop-up shop devoted to Engineered Garments that opens in August.
