Designer update

camilla staerk’s open for business

August 29, 2008  12:34 pm

There are plenty of good reasons to stop by the new Staerk shop in Nolita, number one through approximately one million being that Camilla Staerk’s first-ever freestanding store is the only place that carries all of her sometimes hard-to-find designs. Not only is the complete Staerk Fall collection on hand, but the flagship also stocks classic pieces like the designer’s seriously covetable woven leather clutch and her suddenly very timely unisex oxford, as well as a small range of jewelry and the Staerk sunglasses made by Selima Optique. But once you arrive at the Mulberry Street boutique, spare a moment for the Staerk bags, a bonus for buyers if ever there was one. The designer is upping the ante on the reusable shopping bag trend, packing up purchases in structured, fully lined, interior-pocket-boasting totes made from bolts of leftover Spring ‘08 denim. “We probably could have done something less finished,” Staerk says, “but I figured, why not make a real bag? I mean, I want people to use them, you know?” The totes run in sizes from petite to pachydermic. Which leads one to wonder: How much leftover denim does Staerk have? Is this a strictly limited-edition project? “We ordered a ton of fabric that season. There’s denim for years.”

  2. layering for fall is my favorite - have you checked out readunderwear.com? they have camis and chemises that have quotes printed along the bottom hem - they are white with black print so they go with EVERYTHING!
    such a cool new trend…
