bruce II: simpler, easier, less expensive than before

Given the way the economy is going, the wise designer is diversifying her portfolio, so to speak—in other words, offering clothes at prices other than the rather limiting high-to-astronomical end of the rail. “We want to be accessible to more people,” says Nicole Noselli of Bruce II, the new range she and partner Daphne Gutierrez are offering for Spring ‘09. For fans of the original Bruce, its baby sister will look familiar. “We’re offering a lot of our classic shapes, but streamlined and in fabrics like chambray and cotton gauze,” Gutierrez chimes in. Which means that the duo’s off-the-shoulder dresses, belted tunics, and high-waisted trousers and shorts are there, but eased and simplified (a paring down that’s reflected in the price points, which run from $150 to $600). Think of it as recession dressing at its chicest.
