Designer update

destination SATC

September 8, 2008  5:25 pm

“The clothes look beautiful,” Patricia Field admitted at Saturday night’s launch of Destination Style New York, a one-off collection she created with designer David Dalrymple. “I’m so proud, I’m so happy, oh my God. ‘Cause you know, stuff comes back and it’s a bunch of crap and you’re like, ‘My name on is this crap.’ ” (We’ll attest to the fact that the clothing is indeed pretty fabulous.) Composed of over 70 pieces—mainly bold, colorful dresses and accessories that purposely recall a certain cultural behemoth of a television show—the line will be sold exclusively on HSN here in the U.S. and at Marks & Spencer stores in Europe and the Middle East. “I’d imagine the customer is the woman who watches Sex and the City,” Field says. “Those are women all over the world. It’s a mentality. And it’s a big, big mentality.” Of course, that distinctly Fieldsian attitude was reflected in the designers’ runway presentation, which featured a bevy of slick, grinding models and an impromptu pre-show performance from Lady Bunny. Snapping away furiously, our seasoned seatmate Patrick McMullan finally took a breather and confessed, laughing, “This is as wild as it gets.”
