firemen 1; interns 0

September 5, 2008  5:52 pm

The roof! The roof! The roof is on fire! Or so one might have thought upon arriving at Erin Wasson’s tacos-and-cocktails shindig last night. Down on Ludlow Street, several firemen were loitering next to their flashing truck, now and then throwing a glance or two up at the rooftop where the fête celebrating Wasson’s Spring ‘09 collection for RVCA was taking place. No smoke, no flames, no cherry picker, no grand unfurling of hoses, just a general air of bemusement. “My interns are stuck in the elevator,” explained Brian Phillips, whose company, Black Frame, had organized the party with Wasson and RVCA. “They’re being pretty great about it, I must say. Just chillin’, waiting to get rescued…” Now, for some people, the idea of getting stuck in an elevator on the Lower East Side on the eve of fashion week is fodder for anxiety dreams, but for at least a couple members of the local ladder company, the situation had emerged as something of a boon. “I love my firemen!” said Wasson, who gamely posed for a few snaps with her new pals. “I think they want to stay and get down.” Alas, ’twas not to be—but New York’s Bravest should feel free to use shots of Wasson in their recruiting materials. Rescue a couple of chilling interns, and get face time with a supermodel: Everyone wins. Except the interns, who never do.
